Rural doctors practise under unique circumstances, so it's important to utilise technology to support these unique needs. Digital toolkits, including Telehealth, Secure Messaging and My Health Record enable rural doctors to provide more accessible and better quality healthcare to people living in rural and remote locations.
Rural patients often need to access different medical services. My Health Record allows for timely retrieval of patient medical information and offers the opportunity to collaborate in a more agile and efficient manner with other healthcare providers across multiple locations. Healthcare providers also find My Health Record beneficial in instances where patients are unable to converse due to illness, medical emergencies, or other communication barriers.

Dr McPhee has been using My Health Record for many years. In that time there has been changes in usability and value. The My Health Record is new technology. Rural doctors can share knowledge and experience of the value and uses of this technology. Now patients know it is there, they are starting to ask to have their health information sent to it.
