The Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation (ANR) course is a hands-on, scenario-based course designed to build the confidence and practical skills of clinicians responding to newborn emergencies — particularly in rural and remote settings.

Delivered through 4 hours of online learning, followed by a one-day immersive workshop, this course delivers structured skill stations and realistic, simulation-based scenarios that mirror the challenges of rural and resource-limited practice. Participants will sharpen both their technical and non-technical skills — progressing from initial newborn resuscitation through to post-resuscitation stabilisation and ongoing care. The program explores delivery and neonatal complications, equipping clinicians to manage unwell or premature babies in low-resource settings. Core topics include advanced airway management, vascular access, neonatal drug therapy, post-resuscitation care, and ethical decision-making around initiating or ceasing resuscitation, all underpinned by practical teamwork and sound clinical judgment.

Grounded in ANZCOR Newborn Resuscitation Guidelines, the ANR course supports best-practice neonatal care through evidence-based training that emphasises clinical judgment, teamwork, and communication. Whether stabilising a preterm baby for retrieval, recognising early signs of deterioration, or communicating sensitively with families in high-stress situations, participants will develop the confidence to lead and support their team through every step of neonatal resuscitation.

Appropriate for: ACRRM Fellows, Registrars, Rural General Practitioners, Rural Generalists, Obstetricians, Early-career doctors, Paramedics, Midwives, Nurses, and any healthcare professional involved in the initial care of newborns requiring resuscitation.

Please note: It is recommended that participants register for the course at least 6 weeks prior to the hands-on workshop day, to ensure that you have enough time to complete the online modules prior to the course.
