ACRRM’s Paediatric Emergencies for Rural Generalists clinical training course provides Rural Generalists with the critical skills and confidence to manage paediatric emergencies during the vital early hours of a life-threatening illness or injury.

Developed by Rural Generalists for Rural Generalists, this hands-on course meets Australian Resuscitation Council standards for Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) with participants gaining a Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) qualification in line with ANZCOR guidelines.

Delivered in a flexible blended format, this blended course includes 8 hours of flexible, self-paced online learning followed by two days of practical, face-to-face workshops, focused on procedural skills and clinical simulations. It is specifically designed to meet the challenges of rural and remote emergency care—where personnel and resources are limited—with training focused on:

  • Early recognition of illness and preventing deterioration to reduce the need for advanced life support
  • Managing deterioration in children
  • Paediatric airway and trauma management
  • Care of infants
  • Team leadership in emergency situations

The course uses contemporary, evidence-based teaching and realistic clinical simulations to develop procedural skills and clinical decision-making. A non-confrontational, guided assessment model replaces formal exams, with multiple supported opportunities to demonstrate competency—mirroring real-world teamwork and practice.

Appropriate for: Rural Generalists, GPs, registrars, and clinicians seeking to strengthen their paediatric emergency response in rural settings.

Please note: It is recommended that participants register for the course at least 6 weeks prior to the in-person workshop days, to ensure that you have enough time to complete the online modules prior to the course.
