ACRRM is celebrating two outstanding registrars recognised at the 2026 Australian Medical Association (AMA) Awards.
Northern Territory registrar Dr Dayna Duncan was named AMA Doctor in Training of the Year while Western Australian Rural Generalist registrar Dr Thomas Drake-Brockman received the AMA Diversity in Medicine Award.
The awards were presented during the AMA National Conference in Melbourne on 28 and 29 August and recognise contributions extending well beyond clinical practice into leadership, advocacy, education and a more inclusive medical profession.
Thomas was recognised for their contribution to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in medicine.
As President of the Rural Doctors Association of WA and former AMA WA Doctors in Training co-chair, Thomas has advocated on issues affecting doctors with disability, international medical graduates, and LGBTQIA+ doctors and patients. They have also contributed to government advisory work on LGBTIQA+ policy.
Dayna, a final-year ACRRM registrar, received the Doctor in Training of the Year Award for her advocacy for doctors in training and work developing trainee-led models of medical education.
Working as a medical education registrar with NT Health, Dayna has developed education models that have been incorporated into the Royal Darwin Hospital training program. She is also Vice President of AMA NT and works part-time with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service Danila Dilba Health Service.
