Australia’s Rural Generalist (RG) and General Practice (GP) professions will enter a new period of leadership later this year, with new Presidents taking the helm of both specialist medical colleges.
The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) has elected Dr Ramya Raman as its next President. A specialist GP, practice owner, medical educator and academic, Dr Raman will succeed Dr Michael Wright at the RACGP Annual General Meeting in November.
Her appointment follows the election of Rural Generalist Dr Claire Arundell as ACRRM’s next President. Claire will take over from Dr Rod Martin at ACRRM’s Annual General Meeting in October, bringing experience as a Rural Generalist Anaesthetist, medical educator, instructor and former Chair of ACRRM College Council.
While ACRRM and the RACGP have distinct roles, priorities and memberships, there are areas where collaboration can strengthen the voice of GPs and Rural Generalists and support better healthcare for communities across Australia.
ACRRM congratulates Dr Raman on her election and looks forward to working with her and the RACGP on shared priorities over the next two years.
