Across Australia, Rural Generalist registrars are making their mark in hospitals, clinics, and communities — and six of them have now been honoured with the 2025 Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) Registrar of the Year state awards.

The awards highlight the next generation of rural doctors who are excelling in their training, showing leadership among their peers, and demonstrating a strong commitment to delivering high-quality care where they are most needed.

ACRRM President Dr Rod Martin says the award recipients reflect the breadth and strength of Rural Generalist training across the country.

“Our registrars are the future of rural, remote, and First Nations medicine in Australia.

“These award winners have already shown themselves to be exceptional leaders, clinicians, and advocates,” Dr Martin says.

“They bring an extraordinary combination of skill, compassion, and commitment to their communities — qualities that ensure Rural Generalist medicine continues to be the backbone of rural, remote, and First Nations healthcare.”

2025 ACRRM Registrar of the Year state winners:

  • Queensland – Dr Carolyn Belonogoff (Babinda)

  • New South Wales – Dr Carrie Davenport (Port Macquarie)

  • Victoria – Dr Erin Wright (regional Victoria)

  • South Australia – Dr Adam Overweel (Riverland)

  • Tasmania – Dr David Owusu Sekyere (Huon Valley)

  • Western Australia – Dr Jessica Morgan (Geraldton)

Each of the state award recipients is now a finalist for the national ACRRM Registrar of the Year Award, which will be announced at the Rural Medicine Australia 2025 (RMA25) conference, hosted by ACRRM and the Rural Doctors Association of Australia in Boorloo (Perth) from 22–25 October.
