If you want broad clinical exposure with true Rural Generalist mentoring in a welcoming regional community, Inverell Medical Centre (IMC) is an excellent place to train — and relocation grants are available through ACRRM.

Located in the New England North West of NSW, IMC has a 50-year track record of teaching across medical and nursing students, GP/RG registrars, and post-AST clinicians. Registrars can shape a balanced program that spans high-quality primary care, VMO work at Inverell Hospital, and access to Advanced Specialised Training in the region.

About the supervisors

  • Dr Cheryl McIntyre (RGO)

    • University of NSW graduate (1994); Diploma of Paediatrics (1997), DRANZCOG (1998).

    • Interests: obstetrics and women’s health, family planning, paediatrics, skin cancer, care for people with intellectual disability, travel medicine.

    • UNE lecturer, DRANZCOG examiner, experienced ACRRM/RACGP supervisor.

    • Why she supervises: Fellowed in 2000 and has supported 60+ registrars into fellowship. Mentoring RGs continually sharpens her own practice and champions versatile, compassionate rural care.

  • Dr Duc Phan Huy (RGA)

    • Former anaesthetics training in Paris; anaesthetics practice experience in Vietnam.

    • Current GP/Anaesthetist with interests in skin cancer and occupational health.

    • Why he supervises: Supervising since 2016, he adds depth in anaesthetics and procedural skills to IMC’s training environment, helping registrars build confidence across clinic and theatre.
