Marking Primary Health Care Nurses Day, Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) President Dr Rod Martin says primary health care nurses are indispensable members of Rural Generalist-led teams delivering care in rural, remote and First Nations communities.
“Primary healthcare nurses work side-by-side with Rural Generalists to provide coordinated, patient-centred care, often in settings where health services are stretched and alternatives are limited,” he says.
“Their dedication to the wellbeing of patients and colleagues deserves recognition, especially on days like today.”
Dr Martin says the theme ‘Essential at every stage’ captures the central role of primary health care nurses across prevention, treatment and ongoing support.
“These nurses are central to delivering prevention, early intervention, chronic disease management, emergency care and ongoing support across community health, aged care, schools and primary healthcare settings.
“A strong, well-supported primary healthcare nursing workforce is a key element of the Rural Generalist model and is vital to the long-term sustainability of rural and remote healthcare,” he says.
“We thank them for their contribution to delivering high-quality care across general practice and other multidisciplinary settings.”
