The Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) congratulates Dr Karen Price on being elected as the incoming President of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP).

Dr Price’s election campaign focused on recognition of the profession, a mandate ACRRM President Dr Ewen McPhee says will benefit all General Practitioners (GPs), no matter which College they are aligned to.

“Her commitment to the profession through her work as a GP and advocating for her peers through the GP Down Under social media platform ensures she has the voice and skills to lead RACGP members for the next two years.” Dr McPhee says.

“Dr Price campaigned against a strong field of contenders to be elected to the role.

“With ACRRM’s president-elect Dr Sarah Chalmers taking office shortly, it is noteworthy that GPs and Rural Generalists (RGs) across Australia will be championed by two leaders who are not only committed to serving  their fellow members but who will play a pivotal role during a time when COVID-19, College-led training and RG recognition are on the agenda.

“While a lot has been gained through the combined efforts of the Colleges in recent years, there is a lot more to achieve. “I am confident these incoming leaders will work collaboratively to advocate on joint initiatives while respecting and valuing each other’s opinions and knowledge.

“This is an exciting time to lead the profession and on behalf of the College I congratulate Dr Price on her appointment as RACGP President and wish her all the best.”
