Shaneil Fransch is ACRRM’s Regional Director of Training for Victoria and a Rural Generalist with Advanced Specialised Training in Emergency Medicine based in North East Victoria. He works as a Senior Medical Officer in emergency medicine, serves as Emergency Medicine Clinical Lead for the Victorian Rural Generalist Program and is Executive Director of Medical Services at Yarrawonga Health. His interests include rural medical education, clinical governance and strengthening the rural workforce.

Born in Zimbabwe, Shaneil migrated to Australia with his mother and sister and settled in rural Victoria. Living with cerebral palsy, he spent much of his childhood using a wheelchair before treatment in Australia enabled him to walk. His mother’s career as a Rural Generalist shaped his understanding of rural medicine and later inspired both Shaneil and his sister to follow the same path. These experiences shaped his understanding of how geography and healthcare access affect health outcomes.

His career has focused on improving care for rural and regional communities through clinical practice, education and health service leadership. Alongside his emergency medicine work, he teaches medical students, supervises junior doctors and registrars and supports rural training pathways.

Shaneil is passionate about ensuring people in rural and regional Australia receive quality care close to home. He believes a skilled, supported and sustainable rural medical workforce is central to achieving that goal.
