About Dr Brian Treanor

Dr Brian Treanor has been a Fellow of ACRRM since 2017. Originally from Ireland, he arrived in Tasmania in 1991, using his nursing background to establish and manage a not-for-profit organisation providing support services for people with disability and older members of the community.

A late convert to medicine, he was in his mid-thirties when he commenced his studies at the University of Tasmania. He spent his prevocational years, and undertook his AST in anaesthetics, at the Royal Hobart Hospital. He trained in primary care in Snug, a small town south of Hobart and then moved to the big island to gain experience in tropical medicine. After eight years working in Far North Queensland, he returned to Tasmania in 2024 to run the Tasmanian Rural Generalist Pathway.

Outside of work, he enjoys keeping busy and learning new things. He recently completed a sailing course and is now considering the merits of buying a boat.
