This change marks the transition to a single funded training pathway for all ACRRM registrars.
The consolidation simplifies the delivery of training, maintains existing education and assessment requirements, and ensures continued access to financial support through the Nationally Consistent Payments (NCP) Framework.
For more information on how this change may affect you, please refer to the FAQs below.
The Rural Generalist Training Scheme (RGTS) will cease at the end of 2025.
All RGTS registrars will be transitioned to a single consolidated ACRRM Fellowship Program funded under the AGPT from Semester 1, 2026.
Once this consolidation is completed, from 2026.1, all current registrars will belong to the ACRRM Rural Generalist Fellowship Program.
ACRRM has recognised the need for a single consolidated funded pathway that provides the funding supports of AGPT with the strength of RG brand and flexibility of ACRRM training.
This change will apply to all registrars currently on the RGTS, including RGTS registrars who have received offers for cohorts 2026.1 and 2026.2.
This change will come into effect from Semester 1, 2026 for all registrars enrolled on the RGTS.
Education delivery and requirements will not change.
ACRRM education, training and assessment policies are the same across all ACRRM training pathways (AGPT, RGTS and IP), therefore there will be no change to how you access education, training and assessments.
The funding supports provided while in training will change to align with the AGPT program under the National Consistent Payments (NCP) Framework.
Please use the link above to familiarise yourself with the payments available for registrars under the NCP Framework.
The ACRRM website also has information about changes to the NCP.
Yes - when you will transition from RGTS, you will be eligible to receive financial support under the Flexible Funding arrangements. Your payment eligibility will be determined based on the flexible funding guidelines as part of the NCP Framework and Flexible Funds guidelines.
This change will see the introduction of pro-rata payments for registrars training part-time in a particular Modified Monash (MM) location. Registrars training across multiple MM locations will receive payments for each training location based on the full time equivalent of training (FTE) completed in that location, instead of one combined payment.
Part–time registrars will receive payments based on their FTE, rather than a fixed standard amount.
Registrars who are training part-time (less than 38 hours per week and/or fewer than 26 full-time weeks in a semester), will receive pro-rata payments based on the number of hours worked, rather than a fixed standard amount.
If registrars are placed in multiple MM locations during a semester, the payments may be split across those placements. If a core training term extends over multiple semesters, payments will also be spread across those semesters. Registrars will not receive less funds as a part-time registrar, instead, payments will be more evenly spread over a registrar’s training time.
The payment rates for FTE in each MM will remain the same. As per below:
Medical Educators are assigned to you in your regions at commencement of training. If you have been assigned a Medical Educator, you will continue to work with them irrespective of this change.
TPAs are assigned to you in your regions at commencement of training. If you have been assigned a TPA you will continue to work with them irrespective of this change to support all aspects of your training including check points, progression, assessment readiness and assistance in accessing advice, troubleshooting and resources.
ACRRM runs one national Fellowship program irrespective of training pathway. You will still have the same allowances for flexibility to move locations as on RGTS.
ACRRM runs one national Fellowship Program irrespective of training pathway. You will still have the same education and training requirements to complete. You will receive the same support and engagement at regional and national levels to engage with your training cohort.
There will be no change to how you access education. ACRRM learning is applied consistently across the Fellowship Program - this includes national online education and tutorials, as well as regional teaching and education sessions. Regional sessions cover key education areas, cultural education and procedural skills as relevant to your training.
Your online learning will continue to be delivered through the MyACRRM with clinical resources such AMH and eTG still available.
Training and assessment requirements and support provided by the College will not change.
ACRRM currently has RLOs in each region. This will not be affected by this change. View a list of RLOs.

ACRRM currently funds the course fees for REST and ALS2 for AGPT and RGTS registrars. These arrangements will continue under the single consolidated ACRRM Rural Generalist Fellowship Program from 2026.1 onwards.
The current placement process is the same for all registrars training with ACRRM regardless of the pathway. You will not experience any difference in the placement process with this change.
ACRRM will transition from offering the Rural Generalist Training Scheme (RGTS) to a single consolidated Pathway funded under the AGPT from Semester 1, 2026.

ACRRM holds clear data on dually accredited training practices. ACRRM works with RACGP to manage the Bi-College accreditation and placement model. The Colleges shares data on how many registrars sit across different placements and practices.
Expert data teams from both ACRRM and the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing are working to share relevant data through the Department portal for secure transfers.
