In line with the Council of Australian Government’s directive to implement ‘Nationally Consistent Assessment of International Medical Graduates”, ACRRM has developed the ACRRM Specialist Pathway for the specialty of general practice. The pathway is accredited by the Australian Medical Council. It was developed in conjunction with the State medical boards, Australian Medical Council, and the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing.
What is ACRRM's Specialist Pathway for General Practice?
Through the Specialist Pathway ACRRM enhances IMGs' access to accredited assessment arrangements for general practice, with a focus on rural and remote practice. ACRRM’s Specialist Pathway program provides a fair and equitable pathway for IMGs to achieve Fellowship if they hold recognised overseas general practice qualifications with skills and experience deemed to be substantially or partially comparable to those of an Australian-trained Fellow of ACRRM.
Applying for Assessment through the Specialist Pathway
If you are interested in entering into the Specialist Pathway, the ACRRM codified list of recognised qualifications is a guide to determining your initial eligibility to be assessed for partial or substantial comparability. The ACRRM Specialist Pathway Process Flow is an indicative flowchart outlining the steps involved in progressing through ACRRM’s Specialist Pathway. To be considered for this pathway, you must first make an application through the Australian Medical Council (AMC).
Please note that your interview outcome (result) is valid for 12 months from the date of the interview. If you do not commence the Specialist Pathway within 12 months of your interview, you will be required to be reassessed before being accepted into the Specialist Pathway by both ACRRM and the Australian Medical Council (AMC).
