Locums

Finding locums through state workforce agencies

A number of agencies provide services and financial assistance to rural medical practitioners to help them recruit locums so that they can take annual leave and attend continuing medical education activities.

Rural Health Workforce Australia is the peak body for Rural Workforce Agencies (RWAs), who operate in each State and the Northern Territory. The following organisations can assist you with information about locum initiatives and on current locum vacancies:

Queensland - Health Workforce Queensland

New South Wales - New South Wales Rural Doctors Network

Victoria - Rural Workforce Agency Victoria

South Australia - Rural Doctors Workforce Agency

Tasmania - Health Recruitment Plus Tasmania

Western Australia - Western Australian Centre for Rural and Remote Medicine

Northern Territory - General Practice Network NT

ACRRM also has a network of Women Rural Medical Practitioners who are willing to work as locums for rural women practitioners. For more information on this network contact the College on 1800 223 226 or email acrrmatacrrm [dot] org [dot] au.
