Q What is a CAI?
Who is required to undertake one?
A
As a result of the
Council of Australian Governments International Medical Graduates assessment
initiative, international medical graduates (IMGs) with special purpose
(limited) registration may be requested to undertake a Clinical Assessment
Interview (CAI) by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
Queensland as part of the process of maintaining their special purpose
(limited) registration in Queensland:
- · General
practice
- · All
non-specialist positions in private hospital facilities
- · Senior
medical officers (with or without right of private practice)
- · Medical
officers (with or without right of private practice)
- · Medical
superintendents (with or without right of private practice)
Q What
documentation do I need to complete for a CAI in QLD?

Q Where is the CAI
assessment held?
A
ACRRM conducts the CAI face-to-face at
ACRRMs Brisbane offices, located at 410 Queen Street, Level 4, Brisbane QLD,
4000.
Q What does the CAI
involve?
A
The documentation you provide will be
reviewed by the panel, who will then proceed to assess your level of skills,
knowledge and experience to determine your suitability for the position for
which you currently hold registration for.
This is done by providing you with up
to 4 scenario’s based upon your position description. The CAI is to determine
your suitability for the role you are currently in.
Q What preparation
can I do before undertaking a CAI?
A
There are no documents to study before
a CAI. It is suggested that you review your current position description and
your skills against the following areas, which you will be assessed on during
the course of the CAI:
- Medical interviewing skills
- Physical examination skills
- Clinical judgment
- Treatment/advice
- Communication skills
- Professionalism
- Procedural skills
- Familiarity with relevant social and
cultural issues and Australian language idioms
Q How long is the
interview?
A
Each interview will take approximately
90 minutes and will include question-and-answer sections and discussions based
upon scenarios selected by the panel.
Q What is the fee?
A
The fee for a CAI is $1650.00 AUD to be
paid BEFORE sitting your CAI.
Q Will I receive a
copy of my outcome report?
A
ACRRM will send you a short summary of
the outcomes report (via email only)
once this has been sent to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency
(AHPRA) and approved by them for release. This typically takes 14 WORKING DAYS
from the date of your CAI. Please do not contact ACRRM until after this time if
your report has not been received.
