International Medical Graduates directed to undertake a Clinical Assessment Interview by the Medical Board of Australia

The purpose of the Clinical Assessment Interview

As a result of the Council of Australian Governments International Medical Graduates assessment initiative, international medical graduates (IMGs) with special purpose registration may be requested to undertake a Clinical Assessment Interview (CAI) by the Queensland office of AHPRA as part of the process of maintaining their limited registration in Queensland.

In line with this expectation, the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) has been authorised by the Queensland office - AHPRA to undertake Clinical Assessment Interviews on its behalf for IMGs with special purpose registration in the following positions: 

  • general practice
  • all non-specialist positions in private hospital facilities
  • senior medical officers
  • medical officers (with or without right of private practice)
  • medical superintendents (with or without right of private practice)
